The position of setter in the 2nd team is a thankless task. Never gaining spectacular glory yet always receiving criticism when not feeding the hitters a perfect set from the worst of serve receive passes. In the right hands, it’s a job that just seems to happen and nobody notices quality when it’s there right in the middle of every play in a match.
Gordon gaining this award is a recognition that everyone on court does see the value that he brings to the most responsible of positions in the 2nd team. With a position that can win or lose a match, we all rest easy that this responsibility is in capable hands that bring stability and intelligence to the 2nd team offence.
It’s not just picking the plays for which Gordon receives recognition. His drive
on court brings a sense of urgency to everyone else and maintains focus on play at
all times. He has real sense of tactic both for offence and defence, keeping Mets
right and also sees areas in the opposition to be exploited for tactical advantage.
He has pulled off some breath-
He also takes responsibility as a qualified referee and acts as players rep. To all roles he brings a stately calmness that instills confidence and respect at all times.
