Following the opportunity to play professionally in Germany, Alan returned to Scotland to join Mets as setter for the first team.
This season Alan has played all sets of all matches and been instrumental in leading the team to probably its best season ever. As a setter, Alan brings an element of stability to the court, sculpting precision sets from the most awkward of passes. Even when pulled out of position into somewhere between 3 and 4, he has an amazing ability to reverse set the perfect ball to position 2. It’s a testament to his skill that he makes it look easy, disguising the difficulty and risk associated with playing such a ball. It is this provision of quality setting that allowed the strong hitting unit this year to play at their best.
Professional on court, he strikes the right blend of support and urgency in demanding the best from those around him and has helped settle a distracted hitter or passer on numerous occasions at key points in matches.
Although voted by his fellow clubmates, Alan has been the subject of many admiring comments from players in opposing teams who also recognise the level of skill that he brings to his role. As such he was voted runner up in the Scottish National Player of the Year.
