Mets I beat Bon Accord in Top Teams Cup

Posted on 13th November 2011

With Mets II having a free weekend Bon Accord visited Glasgow for the second time this season to meet Mets I in the Top Teams Cup.

Second team player Greg Forrest came into the first team which was just reward for a committed and strong start to the season with the second team.

Mets ran out comfortable 3-1 winners. The only sour note was the injury sustained by Bon Accord's ex-Mets player Alan Cuthbert in the 4th set - this not only put paid to Bon Accord's hopes of winning as they lost their most consistent player but also created a worried atmosphere in the hall as Alan is such a liked figure in both clubs.

Mets 1st win, 2nds lose in local derby

Posted on 7th November 2011

It was joy for Mets first team as they rebounded from a defeat against City of Edinburgh to record a straight sets victory over Su Ragazzi

Despite not being at their best they managed to close out the match 3 sets to nil putting them in a commanding position as they look to defend their first division title

Mets seconds lost in controversial fashion against Su Ragazzi II - a refereeing performance littered with errors saw the Su side win 3 sets to nil with the final 2 sets going to a depleted Mets side missing 2 regular starters in the form of Craig Girvan and Scott Montgomery.

This result leaves Mets in with the chance of being dragged into a relegation dogfight in the 7 team second division.

Trip to capital fruitless for Mets

Posted on 30th October 2011

On Saturday, both Mets sides travelled to Queensferry High School in Edinburgh to face their Edinburgh counterparts.

The first match of the day say Mets seconds up against City of Edinburgh seconds. Mets were quicker out the block but were quickly pegged back by a young, and very consistent, Edinburgh side. Strong serving throughout made it difficult for Mets to establish any kind of successful hitting pattern and the Edinburgh side ran out comfortable 5 sets to nil winners.

Mets first team also fell to a 3 sets to 1 defeat at the hands of City of Edinburgh first team. Mets weren't up to their usual standards and with CoE, boosted by the signing of Niall Collins from Dundee, were firing on all cylinders and ran out clear and deserved winners.

Depleted Mets Victorious

Despite missing 2010/11 player of the year Alan Krawczyk Mets first team continued their winning start to the season with a 3 sets to nil victory over Edinburgh Jets.

A depleted Mets 2nd team, missing middle-hitter Stevie Baird through injury with captain and setter Gordon Laughland deputising in the first team for Alan Krawczyk, overcame Edinburgh Jets II 3 sets to 2 in a hard fought match to record their first win of the new campaign.

Troon overpowered in cup matches

Posted on 23rd October 2011

Both Mets sides returned to action after an international break meant this was the first match since 8th October.

Mets first team overcame Troon, Prestwick & Ayr in the first match in the Top Teams Cup 3 sets to nil. Mets handed a debut to new signing Miguel Cogorro in place of missing ex-Troon player Daryl McFarlan and his first match for Mets was an assured one in an unfamiliar, middle-hitting, position.

Mets seconds at times struggled against Troon, Kyle and Carrick but eventually managed to produce a straight sets victory against their 3rd division counterparts giving them a good chance of qualifying for the cup proper.

Change beckons as new season approaches

Posted on 14th August 2011

Glasgow Mets, having been located at Holyrood Sports Centre for the past 7 years are relocating. This decision was not taken lightly but due to the financial costs associated with remaining in Glasgow City Council gyms it was an inevitable move.

The move will see Glasgow Mets end it's partnership with Glasgow City Council (which was one of the main reasons for the relocation from Blantyre back in 2004) and the club would like to thank the council for the support it has received over the years.

Looking forward Mets have secured a modern facility - this will secure the club's future financially whilst providing a consistent venue for training and matches alike.
