Former 'Met' plays big part at Olympics

8th August 2012

Former Glasgow Mets player and coach Brian (Barney) McDougall has been rewarded for his work throughout the years as a referee by being privelaged enough to take part in the Olympics games as an official. This has seen Barney take up both first and second officials and the club as a whole are proud to call him one of their own and are keeping fingers crossed for a semi-final/final appointment.

A number of other members of Scottish volleyball have been involved in either an official capacity (Jen Downs, Michael McConville, John Swan, Grant McIntyre to name some) whilst players Chris Lamont, Mark McGivern and Lynne Beattie all played major parts in the GB campaigns.

Update 09/08/2012: Barney was rewarded for his consistent performances throughout the group stages by taking the 2nd official position at this afternoons Womens semi-final match between the USA and South Korea. Very few people in the world can say they've had this honour and the club, and Scottish volleyball, are all very proud of him. Team USA won 3-0 to progress to the final.
